Habilitation department provides outpatient and inpatient early rehabilitation services of secondary and tertiary level for children with development disorders.
Patients of Habilitation Department can be any child from whole country (Lithuania) who has development disorders or is at risk to have them.The main problems why children are admitted to the Habilitation Department are as follows:
• Movement disorders
• Speech and communication disorders
• Feeding and sleeping problems
• Physical development disorders
• Behavioral disorders
• Delay or disorder of several developmental areas
• Other development disorders
• Confirmed or under suspicion diseases which disturb normal child's development: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Dawn Syndrom, mental retardation, Autism, various genetic syndromes etc.
Admition to this Department
Children are referred by family doctor or paediatric neurologist. Services are free of charge. Children are registered in advance by telephone 370 37 36 11 96.
There is a possibility to get services without referral in such case there is some fee for specialists consultations (ref. Services).
Child's examination and consultation is provided by paediatric neurologist, psychologist, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, social worker. A team of specialists evaluate child's functional potential, determine diagnosis, make an individual habilitation programme.
When child's development problems are mild and he or she needs services of only 1-2 specialists, child can attend outpatient department. The duration of stay is 18 days. If child has complex remarkable development disorders or needs intensive habilitation or longer observation he or she is admitted to the 20 bed inpatient department where child stays with mum or dad or other relative and attends specialists' sessions. Inpatient services are provided once a year and the duration of stay is 18 days.
Children who get acutely sick or develop fever during their stay are discharged home until fully recovered and the readmitted.
Child's evaluation and treatment is provided by a team of specialists: paediatric neurologist, paediatrician, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, social worker, art therapist and music therapist (ref. Specialists).
